Maple Flooring

Red Maple


General
Sa different species from hard maple, but no less important. Has similar grain pattern, although 25% softer. Best suited for staining and enamel finishes.

Color
Slightly lighter than hard maple. Ranges from pale to almost white in the sapwood. Heartwood is grey to pale reddish brown with characteristic brown streaks.

Physical Properties
Quite stable. Softer than hard maple. Not as impact-resistant.

Working Properites
Works extremely well, stains very well and produces a good finish.

Applications
Most commonly used for furniture making (often stainded or painted). Mouldings and architectural millwork. Turnings, carves well (as in Louis X1V style).
