Bird's-Eye Maple

General

Not a different species, but a mutation of the hard maple tree. A distortion in the tree’s fibre alignment produces a series of small concentric circle, creating its characteristic figure. Highly praised by fine cabinetmakers.

Colour

Not Ranges from a rich tan to creamy white, accented with dramatic swirls.

Physical Properties
Heavy, strong, stiff. Highly resistant to shock and marring.

Working Properties

The constant change in fibre direction demands great care to avoid “tear out”. A lower cutting angle is recommended.

Applications
Its figure comes alive when finished properly as furniture or mouldings.

Price
Quite rare and therefore rather expensive.
