Often used as an alternative to basswood, easy to work with

Colour
Sapwood is creamy white; heartwood is greyish brown to greyish white. The transition from heartwood to sapwood is usually not distinct.

Physical Properties
Light in weight, soft, moderately weak in strength.

Working Properties
Easy to work with, takes paints and stains quite well.

Applications
mouldings, core stock for doors, framing, caskets, Venetian blinds, wooden cookware, interior cabinet parts.

Price
Inexpensive to average price range.
